Contract Manager – Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve

About the role

The SGER Contract Manager will lead commercial, procurement and contract performance for the Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve (SGER) programme. Reporting to the SGER Project Manager, you will ensure contracts, cost reporting and governance are aligned with the project’s delivery strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Support all commercial activities, including procurement strategy, tender preparation, contract and cost management.
• Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks to minimise delays and cost overruns.
• Manage performance of professional services contracts (e.g., FEED, SI Phase 2, engineering design services) and track actual costs against approved budgets.
• Maintain oversight of cost forecasts, committed spend and cost‑to‑complete positions, ensuring consistency with programme controls and financial reporting.
• Review commercial and cost submissions from contractors and suppliers for value for money and alignment with the business case.
• Support disciplined change control across the programme.

Required profile

• Proven experience in contract management, procurement and commercial governance within large infrastructure or energy projects.
• Strong understanding of cost control, budgeting and financial reporting in a programme environment.
• Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, finance, regulation and supply‑chain functions.
