Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Cyber Security Engineer to join the IT team of a large Irish multinational. The role focuses on driving security accreditation, improving security maturity and ensuring the organisation remains audit‑ready against standards such as Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation and prepare evidence for audits.
• Enhance security maturity in line with ISO 27001, CIS, NIST and other industry frameworks.
• Implement and manage security controls for firewalls, servers, endpoints, cloud services and privileged access.
• Configure and optimise security settings in Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, Intune and Defender suite.
• Lead vulnerability, patch and malware protection programmes and drive remediation.
• Coordinate cyber incident response, breach management and security awareness training.
• Provide senior escalation support for IT platforms including Azure, Active Directory and VMware/vCentre.
• Document security policies, procedures and contribute to broader IT improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• 4–5 years of hands‑on IT experience with a primary focus on cybersecurity.
• Strong understanding of NIS2, GDPR and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience managing security certifications such as Cyber Essentials Plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a small, hands‑on IT environment.

Required skills

• Microsoft 365 and Azure security configuration (Conditional Access, Entra ID, MFA, Intune).
• Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity and Microsoft Sentinel.
• Firewalls, internet gateways and secure server/endpoint configuration.
• Privileged Access Management and user access control.
• Patch and vulnerability management, malware protection.
• VMware/vCentre administration.
• Knowledge of ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, CIS and NIST frameworks.
