Director of Platform Engineering – VMware

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Director to lead its global VMware virtualization service within the Distributed Platforms team. You will own the roadmap, drive scale, and ensure operational resilience as the platform supports rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the global virtualization engineering team.
• Own the VMware virtualization service and define its strategic roadmap.
• Design and operate the VMware platform at scale, focusing on performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to continuously improve platform resiliency.
• Provide Level‑3 engineering support during major incidents.

Required profile

• Expert‑level knowledge of VMware technologies.
• Proven experience managing large teams that support VMware estates.
• Background in supporting Linux, storage solutions, or container runtimes is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to drive automation, observability, and resiliency initiatives.
• Strong communication skills for presenting to executive audiences.
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical capabilities.
• Proactive mindset to challenge the status‑quo and foster continuous improvement.
