About the role
Join IBM's newly created team in Waterford to enhance the Linux kernel for IBM Z and LinuxONE platforms. You will work on low‑level kernel development, virtualization concepts such as KVM, and confidential containers for Kubernetes, collaborating with global IBM teams and open‑source communities.
Key responsibilities
- Design and specify new kernel enhancements and virtualization features.
- Write, test, and debug C/C++ code within the Linux kernel.
- Perform performance analysis, bug fixing, and problem determination.
- Submit patches to upstream repositories and engage with open‑source maintainers.
- Support client issues and contribute to continuous integration pipelines (CI/CD).
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Strong passion for low‑level software development and open‑source contribution.
- Ability to work onsite three days per week in a hybrid model.
Required skills
- Proficiency in C and C++ for kernel development.
- Understanding of OS internals: memory management, task scheduling, interrupts, device drivers.
- Experience with Git and scripting in Python.
- Familiarity with CI tools such as Jenkins.
- Knowledge of I/O technologies: PCI, NVMe, RDMA.
- Experience with IBM Z architecture, Z assembler, and related I/O concepts.
