Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Intellectual Disability Mental Health

About the role

The University of New South Wales seeks a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to lead research, teaching, and capacity building in intellectual and developmental disability mental health. The role is based at the Kensington Campus and will shape translational, co‑designed research aimed at improving mental health outcomes for people with intellectual disabilities, including autism.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic and strategic leadership for disability mental health research and education.
• Lead a translational research programme focused on health services, systems improvement, and evidence‑based practice.
• Collaborate with NSW Health, government agencies, healthcare providers, and lived‑experience stakeholders.
• Contribute to teaching and curriculum development within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health.
• Mentor emerging researchers and supervise high‑calibre students.
• Foster national and international partnerships across disability and mental health sectors.

Required profile

• MBBS/MD, PhD, or equivalent with distinguished experience in psychiatry, psychology, or a related health discipline.
• Extensive experience in intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Proven record of high‑impact research and academic excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with external stakeholders, including government and community groups.
• Experience delivering education and training both face‑to‑face and online.
• Commitment to co‑design research with people who have lived experience.

What we offer

• Academic Level C/D remuneration $155,000–$185,000 AUD plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
• Fixed‑term contract until 23 April 2027 (0.5–1.0 FTE).
