Staff Nurse – Medical Ward

About the role

UPMC Whitfield Hospital is seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the Medical Ward team in Waterford. The role involves delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care to patients and their families on a shift‑by‑shift basis.
• Work closely with consultants, multidisciplinary colleagues, patients and carers to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
• Maintain specialist knowledge and clinical competence relevant to the medical ward.
• Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, quality of care and clinical governance.
• Promote a positive team environment through strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) register.
• Minimum two years post‑registration experience in a medical and/or surgical setting.
• Experience in a general inpatient ward; experience in Emergency, Critical Care or Acute Medicine is desirable.
• Commitment to ongoing CPD and professional development.

Required skills

• Registered General Nurse (NMBI) qualification.
