Staff Nurse – Surgical Hub (Permanent/Part‑time)

About the role

The Health Service Executive is recruiting a Staff Nurse for the Surgical Hub at Merlin Park University Hospital, part of Galway University Hospitals. The position is open to both HSE and non‑HSE applicants and offers permanent full‑time or part‑time contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality nursing care to pre‑operative, intra‑operative and post‑operative patients.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and allied health professionals to ensure seamless patient pathways.
• Maintain accurate patient records and adhere to infection‑control standards.
• Administer medications, intravenous therapies and wound care as required.
• Support patient education and discharge planning.

Required profile

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
• Eligibility to work in Ireland.
• Experience in surgical or acute care nursing is desirable.
• Flexibility to work shift patterns, including weekends.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and monitoring.
• Intravenous therapy and medication administration.
• Wound management.
• Use of electronic patient record systems.
