Superintendent – Geothermal Operations

About the role

The Superintendent, Geothermal Operations leads Newmont's geothermal function at the Lihir mine, ensuring that geothermal activities support safe mining, operational performance, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Manager Mine Technical Services, you will provide strategic direction and technical oversight for all geothermal risks.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing geothermal team with a strong safety culture.
• Develop and execute strategic geothermal plans aligned with mine design and operational objectives.
• Provide technical leadership for geothermal depressurisation, cooling, monitoring, and risk‑management programs.
• Coordinate geothermal drilling, instrumentation, data collection, geological mapping, and testing activities.
• Monitor geothermal and hydrological conditions to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
• Deliver accurate, timely technical advice to operational and leadership stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a technical or mining environment.
• Strong safety focus and ability to foster a performance‑driven culture.
• Excellent collaboration skills with Mine Operations, Technical Services, Geology, and external consultants.
• Ability to translate technical data into actionable operational recommendations.
