Software Development Engineer – AWS Lambda (Dublin)

About the role

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join the AWS Lambda Control Plane team in Dublin. You will design, build and operate the distributed systems that sit between customers and the Lambda data‑plane, ensuring that every function’s state is validated, orchestrated and propagated at global scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and operate high‑throughput, globally consistent APIs that form the public surface of Lambda.
• Build asynchronous workflows that manage the lifecycle of functions, from creation to version publishing.
• Ensure metadata propagation across regions with strict ordering guarantees, even under partial failures.
• Maintain availability as a first‑class design constraint for one of AWS’s largest services.
• Participate in on‑call rotation, troubleshooting incidents and driving root‑cause resolution.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and operating production‑grade distributed systems.
• Comfort with ambiguous problems and end‑to‑end ownership from API contract to data‑plane handoff.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one of Java, Python or TypeScript.
• Bias toward simple, operable solutions that can be reasoned about at any hour.
• Customer‑focused mindset with a desire to turn developers into fans of the service.
