Director, User Insights

About the role

DuckDuckGo is seeking a Director of User Insights to lead a team of researchers embedded across product areas. You will turn user behavior and feedback into actionable decisions that ship, shaping product strategy for a privacy‑focused tech company.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a group of qualitative and quantitative researchers across multiple product surfaces.
• Set the strategic direction for how research connects to product decisions company‑wide.
• Design and implement research intake systems that surface product decisions weeks ahead of roadmap commitments.
• Run longitudinal studies on feature adoption and translate findings into onboarding and acquisition messaging.
• Consolidate research findings into decision‑ready briefs for engineering and design teams.
• Partner closely with product, data science, and leadership to ensure insights reach the right stakeholders at the right time.

Required profile

• 15+ years of professional experience, including 4+ years in senior leadership (Director, Head, VP) in user insights or research.
• Deep practitioner‑level expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
• Proven ability to create measurement approaches from first principles for ambiguous product questions.
• Experience at a consumer‑facing tech company with a significant US user base and multiple product surfaces.
• Background in environments with daily sequenced A/B experiments where research is integrated into the shipping process.
• Track record of developing researchers and improving methodology, framing, and stakeholder communication.
• Comfort presenting research strategy to senior leadership in terms of business outcomes.
• Experience working in resource‑constrained organisations where sequencing decisions are critical.
