Fitter Machinist – Fixed Plant Maintenance

About the role

Simberi Gold is seeking a skilled Fitter Machinist to join its Fixed Plant Maintenance team on a permanent, full‑time basis. The role is based in Papua New Guinea and supports a roster covering multiple sites across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Identify root causes of mechanical breakdowns and implement permanent repairs.
• Troubleshoot plant equipment to improve productivity and safety.
• Install new plant, equipment, and pipe work, including automated machinery.
• Perform polyurethane fabrication for repairs or equipment enhancements.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and lubricate rotating equipment.
• Maximise machine uptime through efficient maintenance and support new installations.
• Identify and act on safety issues, and report activities to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Carry out additional operational tasks as required.

Required profile

• Behaviour aligned with St Barbara’s values.
• NATTB trade qualification in Maintenance Fitting & Machining.
• Minimum 4 years experience in fixed‑plant maintenance, upgrading, and repair.
• Understanding of relevant engineering standards and procedures.
• Ability to read equipment manuals and follow instructions.
• Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics.
• Familiarity with large pumps, gearboxes, valves, and grinding mills.
