Head of Communications – British & Irish Lions Tour 2027

About the role

The British & Irish Lions are seeking a senior communications leader to drive the narrative for the inaugural Lions Women’s Tour to New Zealand in 2027. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, you will shape and execute a global communications strategy for one of sport’s most iconic brands.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall communications strategy for the Lions Women’s Tour.
• Build and leverage a high‑impact global sports media network to maximise reach.
• Lead corporate communications, PR, and crisis communications programmes.
• Direct media operations and manage major press events.
• Strengthen relationships with broadcasters and key media partners.
• Advise senior leadership on communications risks and opportunities.
• Deliver media training and ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
• Represent the Lions at high‑profile events and stakeholder engagements.
• Oversee digital and social communications for an integrated approach.
• Lead internal communications to align the organisation.
• Set KPIs, evaluate impact and report insights to the CMO.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in sports communications, preferably international sport.
• Proven track record leading communications for major events or high‑profile campaigns.
• Strong understanding of the global media landscape, especially rugby and women’s sport.
• Established network of media contacts across the UK, Ireland and internationally.
• Exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder‑management abilities.
