Software Engineer, Backend

About the role

Resend is scaling rapidly, serving over 4 million developers with a modern email‑sending platform. The company is looking for senior backend engineers to own features end‑to‑end, build reliable distributed systems, and operate the infrastructure that powers millions of daily emails. The position is fully remote for candidates in the Americas or European time zones, with occasional travel for off‑sites and conferences.

Key responsibilities

• Own features from idea to production, including API design, dashboard experiences, and supporting services.
• Build reliable distributed systems such as queues and background workers that handle traffic spikes, retries, and failures.
• Scale APIs and databases, improving performance, data integrity, and efficiency as usage grows.
• Operate services with robust monitoring, safe deployments, and participation in on‑call rotation.
• Collaborate with support and customers to turn recurring problems into product improvements.
• Raise engineering quality by strengthening tests, tooling, and existing systems while delivering new capabilities.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating backend services in production.
• Hands‑on experience with queues, asynchronous processing, and distributed systems handling retries, duplicate events, concurrency, and partial failures.
• Ability to design systems from scratch and plan their rollout.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, deployments, observability, capacity planning, and production debugging.
• Experience designing APIs, relational data models, diagnosing slow queries, and making safe database changes.
• Proficiency with infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
• Comfort working across the stack to deliver complete product experiences.
• Clear written and spoken English with the ability to collaborate across overlapping Americas working hours.
