Assistant Person In Charge (APIC) – Nursing Home

About the role

The Assistant Person in Charge (APIC) supports the Person in Charge (PIC) in leading a nursing home, ensuring high‑quality, person‑centred care for older residents. This role combines clinical supervision, staff development, and compliance oversight in a dynamic, compassionate environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the PIC with daily operations, staffing, and organisational management.
• Lead the facility in the PIC’s absence, adhering to the Health Act 2007 and HIQA standards.
• Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and ongoing training to nursing and care teams.
• Maintain compliance with statutory regulations, health‑and‑safety policies, and internal quality standards.
• Oversee safeguarding procedures and ensure timely reporting of concerns.
• Manage workforce levels to deliver safe, effective care across all shifts.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with an active PIN from An Bord Altranais.
• Minimum six years post‑registration nursing experience, including at least two years in a nursing home.
• At least two years in a management or supervisory role.
• Post‑registration qualification in healthcare management (or willingness to obtain).
• Desirable qualifications in gerontology or dementia care.

Required skills

• Current certifications in Infection Control, Manual and Resident Moving & Handling, Medication Management, Dementia Care, CPR, and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (training can be provided).
