Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor – Intellectual Disability Mental Health

About the role

The University of New South Wales is seeking a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to lead research, teaching and clinical capacity building in intellectual and developmental disability mental health. The fixed‑term position (until 23 April 2027) can be undertaken at 0.5–1.0 FTE on the Kensington Campus, Sydney.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a translational, co‑designed research programme aimed at improving mental health outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism.
• Collaborate with NSW Health, government agencies, health‑care providers and people with lived experience to strengthen clinical and research capacity.
• Develop and deliver innovative education initiatives and supervise emerging researchers.
• Contribute to teaching and research within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health at UNSW Medicine & Health.
• Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to sector stakeholders and junior academics.

Required profile

• MBBS/MD, PhD or equivalent with distinguished experience in psychiatry, psychology or a related health discipline.
• Extensive experience working with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrated record of high‑quality, high‑impact research and academic excellence.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver face‑to‑face and online education and training.
• Established relationships with external stakeholders such as government bodies and community organisations.

What we offer

• Annual salary $155,000–$185,000 AUD plus 17 % superannuation and annual leave loading.
