About the role
The Senior Pharmacist – Cancer Services will join the Pharmacy Department of St. Vincent’s University Hospital, providing specialist pharmaceutical care to patients receiving haematology and oncology treatment. This senior position involves overseeing medication management, supporting the aseptic unit, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain full knowledge of approved pharmacy systems, documentation and quality procedures across the hospital.
- Prioritise patient care in all activities and ensure compliance with SVUH guidelines and policies.
- Complete and file all medication‑related documentation, including adverse incident and near‑miss reports, in a timely manner.
- Identify and address deficiencies in medication management systems and report discrepancies to senior pharmacy managers.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, providing advice on prescribing, medication management and pharmaceutical care.
- Act as a liaison between pharmacy management and clinical staff in haematology/oncology areas.
- Participate in quality and value‑for‑money initiatives, encouraging completion of adverse drug reaction cards and incident reports.
- Join the Aseptic Compounding Unit roster and deliver clinical pharmacy services across haematology and oncology as required.
Required profile
- Registered pharmacist with senior‑level experience in cancer or oncology pharmacy services.
- Familiarity with aseptic compounding processes and hospital pharmacy documentation systems.
- Strong understanding of medication safety, adverse event reporting and quality improvement in a clinical setting.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and provide expert advice to medical and nursing staff.
