Senior Systems Administrator – IT (Cork, Ireland)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to join our IT team in Cork. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our infrastructure while supporting the day‑to‑day operations of our users.

Key responsibilities

• Lead installation, configuration and ongoing management of servers, storage, network devices and other infrastructure components.
• Administer Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud environments.
• Oversee L1.5 help‑desk escalations, ensuring timely resolution of complex technical issues.
• Implement and manage backup solutions and disaster‑recovery plans, testing them regularly.
• Maintain security compliance by applying patches, monitoring vulnerabilities and supporting firewalls, intrusion detection and encryption.
• Configure and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access points.
• Develop PowerShell and Bash scripts to automate routine tasks and improve efficiency.
• Document system configurations, processes and procedures; mentor junior staff.
• Coordinate with vendors for hardware/software procurement, warranties and support.
• Monitor system performance, tune resources and ensure high availability of critical services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Proven experience in senior‑level systems administration.
• Own vehicle and a valid driving licence.
