Setting Out Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Setting Out Engineer to join a leading Tier-1 main contractor on a 15-month civil engineering project in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. The role is site-based and will act as the key link between the design office and construction crews, ensuring all works are delivered to exact tolerances and comply with BCAR regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform setting-out, surveying and level checks across the site using high-specification robotic instruments.
• Review and interpret architectural and structural models (AutoCAD/BIM) to identify and resolve design discrepancies before construction.
• Establish and maintain on-site quality-control metrics, including grid checks, concrete pre-pour sign-offs and deep utility location logs to satisfy Building Control Regulations.
• Complete detailed as-built surveys and continuously update site models for accurate client handover.
• Provide precise reference points, datums and offsets to foremen, labourers and sub-contractors.
• Check, maintain and calibrate all surveying and testing equipment to ensure zero margin of error.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geomatics or a related technical field.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer with a main contractor or heavy civil sub-contractor in Ireland or the UK.
• Experience operating modern robotic survey stations (Leica TS16/TS18 or Trimble equivalents) and GPS/GNSS rover units.
• Competency in AutoCAD for data extraction, level processing and reading coordinate files.
• Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates; CSCS cards are an advantage.
• Full, clean driving licence.
