Lead Database Administrator

About the role

Ocuco Limited is looking for a Lead Database Administrator to head its Database Team at the Dublin headquarters. This hands‑on role combines technical expertise with people leadership, ensuring the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of both customer and internal database environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate Database Administrators and Data Engineers, working with the Operations Director on priorities, scheduling and resource planning.
• Provide day‑to‑day line management, performance reviews, coaching and development for the Database Team.
• Mentor team members and establish a structured knowledge‑transfer framework.
• Own customer and internal database requirements, guaranteeing high standards of reliability, availability and performance.
• Manage configuration, maintenance, recovery, preventative maintenance and performance‑tuning across hosted and remote environments.
• Diagnose performance issues, implement solutions and contribute to resilience and capacity planning.
• Maintain database schemas, migration and maintenance scripts.
• Write, review and execute SQL, PL/SQL and T-SQL scripts for data manipulation, loading and extraction.
• Collaborate with Development, Operations and Support teams on database‑related changes and issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior database administration role with leadership responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of database structures, performance tuning, recovery and capacity planning.
• Hands‑on expertise with SQL, PL/SQL and T-SQL scripting.
• Ability to mentor, coach and develop technical staff.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
