Open Crane Operator

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Open Crane Operator to join New Simberi Gold Limited’s Simberi Operations in Papua New Guinea. The role involves operating both a non‑slew franna crane (Mac‑25) and mobile slew cranes up to and over 100 tonnes, supporting material handling on our open‑cut mine.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily pre‑start and post‑start checks on all assigned cranes.
• Interpret load charts and execute lifts safely according to OEM standards.
• Operate non‑slew and mobile slew cranes, including set‑up, rigging and positioning of loads.
• Inspect equipment, carry out routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating, and report any defects.
• Prepare and follow Job Hazard Analyses, Safe Work Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and lift plans.
• Collaborate with the Crane Supervisor and other team members to ensure safe work practices.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 education.
• Unrestricted PNG Driver Licence (Class 7).
• At least 5 years of industry experience operating cranes.
• Certificates to operate non‑slew crane (TLILIC3006A or RIIHAN212D), mobile slew crane up to 100 t (TLILIC0014 or RIIHAN304D), mobile slew crane over 100 t (TLILI4011A), and dogging (CPCCLDG3001A or RIIHAN208D).
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems.
• Ability to work out‑of‑hours and on a 15/13 roster.
