Assistant Transport Manager

About the role

Keelings is seeking an Assistant Transport Manager to support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of its fast‑paced fresh‑produce transport network. Working closely with the Transport Manager, you will help oversee a fleet of over 50 vehicles and a team of more than 50 drivers, ensuring high service levels and cold‑chain integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Transport Manager in daily transport operations to achieve on‑time, in‑full (OTIF) deliveries.
• Coordinate routing, scheduling and vehicle allocation for day and night shifts.
• Monitor live deliveries, resolve delays, breakdowns and customer escalations.
• Support driver supervision, performance monitoring, coaching and daily briefings.
• Ensure compliance with EU Drivers Hours Regulations, tachograph rules, Working Time Directive and HACCP food‑safety standards.
• Maintain fleet documentation, licences, CPC requirements and incident reporting.
• Schedule vehicle maintenance, inspections and manage breakdown response to minimise downtime.
• Utilise telematics systems to track driver behaviour, fuel efficiency and route adherence.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport or logistics operations, preferably within a fleet environment.
• Strong knowledge of EU drivers‑hours legislation, tachograph usage and food‑safety (HACCP) requirements.
• Ability to lead and motivate a large driver team, ensuring safety and professionalism.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the capacity to act decisively during disruptions.
