Assistant Transport Manager

About the role

Keelings is seeking an Assistant Transport Manager to support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of its fresh‑produce transport network. You will work closely with the Transport Manager to ensure a 50+ vehicle fleet and driver team deliver on‑time, in‑full service while maintaining cold‑chain integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in daily transport planning, routing, scheduling and vehicle allocation for day and night operations.
• Monitor live deliveries, resolve delays, breakdowns and customer escalations, and coordinate contingency solutions.
• Support driver supervision, performance monitoring, coaching, briefings and onboarding.
• Ensure compliance with EU Drivers Hours regulations, tachograph rules, CPC requirements and food‑safety standards.
• Coordinate vehicle maintenance, inspections and breakdown response with service providers.
• Use telematics and temperature monitoring systems to track driver behaviour, fuel efficiency and cold‑chain compliance.
• Act as a point of contact for transport‑related customer queries and internal stakeholder communication.
• Contribute to cost‑efficiency initiatives, fuel usage monitoring and continuous improvement projects.

Required profile

• Experience in transport, logistics or distribution environments, preferably multi‑drop and temperature‑controlled.
• Strong understanding of EU Drivers Hours regulations and tachograph compliance.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast‑paced operational setting.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Team‑player attitude with a proactive, hands‑on approach.
