Civil Defence Trainer

About the role

The Department of Defence is seeking experienced Civil Defence Trainers to join the Civil Defence College in Roscrea. You will be responsible for delivering nationally coordinated training programmes that support the Principal Response Agencies across Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Design, plan and deliver training courses for Civil Defence volunteers and staff at both the central college and local authority sites.
• Collaborate with national bodies such as the Pre‑Hospital Emergency Care Council and Rescue3 Europe to ensure training meets accredited standards.
• Develop specialised modules on Swiftwater rescue, flood response and other emergency management topics.
• Assess trainee performance, provide feedback and maintain training records in line with civil service policies.
• Contribute to the ongoing restructuring of the College’s discipline areas and support the Towards 2030 strategic plan.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in emergency services training or a comparable civil defence environment.
• Strong understanding of Irish civil defence legislation and the role of Principal Response Agencies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local authorities, Garda Síochána, HSE and other partners.
• Excellent communication and instructional skills.
