Clinical Nurse/Midwife Manager – Infection Prevention & Control

About the role

The Clinical Nurse/Midwife Manager 3 will lead the Infection Prevention and Control service within the University Maternity Hospital in Limerick. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing, the role combines clinical leadership with strategic oversight to protect patients, staff and visitors from healthcare‑associated infections.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor infection prevention policies and procedures across maternity and acute services.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of nurses, midwives and support staff, providing coaching, performance management and professional development.
• Conduct risk assessments, surveillance audits and outbreak investigations, ensuring compliance with national HSE guidelines.
• Collaborate with clinical departments, microbiology services and external agencies to promote best practice.
• Prepare and present reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Midwife with current registration in Ireland.
• Significant experience in infection prevention and control within a hospital setting.
• Demonstrated leadership and managerial experience at senior level (Grade 3 or equivalent).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
