Cost Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Cost Accountant to join a growing engineering business with multiple sites across Ireland. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide accurate costing data, financial analysis and insights that support operational excellence and strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyse product cost data across several engineering locations.
• Develop and maintain standard costing methodologies.
• Prepare detailed variance, margin and cost‑analysis reports.
• Review material, labour and production variances and drive corrective actions.
• Assist with annual standard cost updates, inventory valuation reviews and margin analysis.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, supply chain and commercial teams to ensure costing accuracy.
• Become a key user of the SAP costing system and support process improvements.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and cost‑saving initiatives.
• Present financial insights and recommendations to management.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years’ cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of costing systems and accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to prepare and interpret daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial reports.
• Experience working with production, engineering or operations teams on costing and performance analysis.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP costing module.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Solid Microsoft Office application knowledge.
