Cost Control Officer – Mining Operations

About the role

The Cost Control Officer will track and manage costs across asset maintenance activities at Newmont's Lihir gold mine. You will ensure budget compliance, accurate cost allocation and clear financial reporting while partnering with operational stakeholders to provide cost insights.

Key responsibilities

• Manage committed, incurred and forecast costs across assigned departments, monitoring expenditure against budgets and performing variance analysis.
• Prepare monthly operating and capital expenditure accruals, cost allocations and financial reports for operational stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate cost records and dashboards, including purchase orders, contractor claims, timesheets and vendor invoices.
• Partner with superintendents, procurement, contractors and other stakeholders to resolve cost issues and strengthen budget ownership.
• Identify opportunities to improve cost control processes, reporting efficiency and audit compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Management, Accounting or related field (Diploma in Accounting acceptable).
• CPA qualification or progression towards CPA.
• Considerable experience in cost control, accounting, financial reporting or project controls.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SAP S/4HANA.
• Experience with Power BI and Smartsheet reporting tools.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
