Cyber Security Engineer – Threat Detection

About the role

SMBC Group is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer specialized in Threat Detection to join its high‑performing Security Operations team. The role is hybrid, based in the Tralee office, and focuses on building, tuning and maintaining detection logic across cloud and on‑premises environments to proactively identify and respond to threats.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain threat detection rules and signatures for cloud and on‑premises workloads.
• Build and manage data ingestion and log onboarding pipelines for security‑relevant telemetry.
• Collaborate with threat intelligence, analysts, incident responders and technology partners to translate emerging threats into actionable detections.
• Validate detection coverage, investigate alerts, and reduce time‑to‑detect and time‑to‑respond.
• Continuously improve alert quality and response effectiveness.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with security telemetry, analytics and automation.
• Ability to work independently with limited guidance while collaborating across teams.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive security mindset.

Required skills

• Experience with detection‑as‑code practices.
• Knowledge of cloud security and on‑premises security monitoring.
• Familiarity with building and tuning detection logic.
