Design Engineer

About the role

JFC is seeking a Design Engineer to join its R&D team in Tuam, Co. Galway. The role involves designing and developing products across Marine, Agri, Civils and Material Handling sectors, covering machines, components and moulds from concept through to re‑engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Project manage new product development and upgrades of existing products.
• Develop product designs and rotational mould tool designs based on technical specifications.
• Apply design for manufacture and assembly techniques.
• Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs and codes.
• Prepare product specification sheets, bills of materials and marketing literature.
• Document designs and specifications in line with ISO 9001:2015 QMS and CE Marking EN1090.
• Perform product testing to verify designs and ensure compliance with national and international legislation.
• Collaborate with external component and material suppliers to reduce cost.
• Carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (Level 8) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 2–3 years of experience in product design and development.
• Proven track record of delivering results in a fast‑paced environment.
• Knowledge of quality management systems, ISO 9001:2015 and CE Marking EN1090.
• Strong oral and written communication, presentation and technical report writing skills.
• Commercial awareness and ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
