Director of Services (Senior Management)

About the role

The Director of Services is a senior member of the Waterford City & County Council management team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. This role supports the Chief Executive in building a high‑performance, innovative and responsive organisation that delivers a wide range of public services.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Chief Executive in advancing the physical, economic, social and cultural life of the county.
• Oversee multiple functional areas and develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead large multidisciplinary teams and manage both capital and operational budgets.
• Develop and implement strategic change programmes across the organisation.
• Ensure delivery of services in a cost‑effective and efficient manner.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior management within a public sector or local government environment.
• Ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams and significant budgets.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills.
• Strategic thinking and capability to drive substantial organisational change.
