Embedded Software Engineering Co‑Op Student

About the role

Join Stryker's Cork R&D team as an Embedded Software Engineering Co‑Op Student, supporting the design and development of medical devices for orthopedic surgeons.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development, modification, and verification of embedded software for medical devices under supervision.
• Support prototyping, bench testing, and root‑cause analysis to evaluate potential solutions against requirements.
• Conduct research and studies to inform product design and create or refine engineering documentation such as Design History Files.
• Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management teams to ensure project success.

Required profile

• Currently studying or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical, Software, Electronic Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline.
• Fundamental knowledge of embedded software engineering practices within a regulated environment.
• Basic proficiency in programming with Embedded C and C++ (required) and Python (desirable).

Required skills

• Embedded C, C++ programming.
• Python (desirable).
• MS Office proficiency.
• Basic understanding of PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD) and development boards such as Raspberry Pi (optional).
