Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist

About the role
Our client is looking for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in forensic psychiatry to join a community‑based forensic mental health service. The role involves delivering expert psychiatric assessment, treatment and risk formulation while providing clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct specialist forensic psychiatric assessments and reviews for individuals with complex mental health and forensic histories.
- Develop and implement comprehensive treatment, recovery and risk‑management plans.
- Provide expert psychiatric input for patients with dual diagnoses, behavioural challenges and forensic backgrounds.
- Collaborate with psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, behavioural specialists and social care professionals.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and produce medico‑legal reports.
- Participate in service development, clinical governance, audit and quality‑improvement initiatives.
- Support regulatory compliance and contribute to on‑call and consultant cover arrangements.
- Promote a recovery‑focused, person‑centred approach to care.
Required profile
- Specialist Registration (or eligibility) with the Irish Medical Council.
- Proven experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist within forensic mental health services.
- Strong assessment, diagnostic and clinical decision‑making abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of risk assessment and management in forensic settings.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality clinical reports and documentation.
- Engagement in audit, research, teaching or continuous professional development.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
