General Manager – Sheltered Housing Charity

About the role

Our client, a respected registered charity delivering sheltered housing, is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will ensure high‑quality resident services, strong governance and long‑term sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of sheltered housing schemes and ensure services meet the highest standards.
• Support resident wellbeing, independence and satisfaction while maintaining safety compliance.
• Lead, motivate and develop staff, fostering a positive, resident‑focused culture.
• Ensure compliance with housing legislation, health and safety, safeguarding and charity governance standards.
• Provide regular operational and strategic updates to the Board of Trustees.
• Work with finance and trustees to develop budgets, monitor performance and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Act as an ambassador in the local community, building relationships with authorities, healthcare providers and partners.
• Oversee website and communications, developing outreach initiatives to raise awareness.
• Identify grant opportunities, develop donor relationships and support income‑generation activities.

Required profile

• Significant experience in housing, social care, community services or the nonprofit sector.
• Confident, compassionate professional with strong leadership abilities.
• Proven track record of operational leadership, governance and financial stewardship.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
