Instrumentation & IT Technician

About the role

This position supports one of Ireland's most advanced marine research programmes, combining hands‑on engineering, scientific instrumentation, and IT support. The role alternates between shore‑based work and deployments on research vessels, offering exposure to cutting‑edge technology and sea‑based operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, calibrate and repair complex scientific and electronic instrumentation.
• Provide onboard IT, communications and desktop system support.
• Diagnose and resolve technical faults across instrumentation and networked equipment.
• Prepare, test and maintain equipment before and after research surveys.
• Deliver technical support during scientific expeditions at sea (approximately 120 days per year).
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers and vessel crews to ensure successful research operations.

Required profile

• Degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience maintaining and repairing complex electronic instrumentation or technical equipment.
• Full EU/EEA driving licence.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
