Leading Hand – Mechanical (Oxygen Plant)

About the role

As a Leading Hand – Mechanical (Oxygen) you will coordinate and oversee maintenance activities on Newmont’s Lihir operation, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with regulatory and site requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, managing risks and promoting safe work practices.
• Develop and execute weekly maintenance plans, allocating resources to meet operational targets.
• Participate in pre‑start, production, maintenance and planning meetings to align priorities.
• Provide visible field leadership during daily maintenance tasks and operational challenges.
• Step into the Supervisor role when required to maintain continuity and safety.
• Conduct pre‑start meetings that reinforce safety expectations and team accountability.
• Prioritise breakdowns with Operations and coordinate resources for timely, safe solutions.
• Apply knowledge of oxygen plant and cryogenic systems to support reliable plant performance.
• Support shutdown planning, readiness and execution to ensure work is completed on schedule and to high standards.

Required profile

• Trade‑qualified Turner/Fitter with a recognised NATTB trade certificate.
• Proven experience in a similar role within cryogenic plant environments.
• Strong commitment to safety and understanding of hazard identification and risk management.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and reports using Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
