Maintenance Engineer – Fixed-Term (23 months)

About the role

AbbVie is looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering team at the Carraigtwohill site in Cork on a 23‑month fixed‑term contract. Reporting to the Engineering Operations Manager, you will provide technical expertise for daily production issues, focusing on reliability, asset management and continuous improvement while supporting manufacturing projects and ensuring compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day production issues and reliability engineering activities.
• Troubleshoot technical problems and implement effective solutions.
• Assist manufacturing projects in line with quality, safety, environmental and operational requirements.
• Lead or support projects, training development and cross‑training initiatives.
• Drive process improvements and Kaizen activities.
• Collaborate with EHS to ensure safety of staff and contractors.
• Maintain compliance with Engineering Change Control and reliability standards for equipment, processes, systems and utilities.
• Participate in root‑cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
• Develop business cases for technical improvement projects.
• Improve maintenance systems and identify technical or financial opportunities.
• Support energy management, sustainability and asset lifecycle planning.

Required profile

• Degree (Level 8) in Mechanical, Chemical/Process Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Maintenance Engineering or a similar role within an FDA or HPRA regulated environment.
• Experience working in a sterile fill pharmaceutical facility.
• Strong knowledge of cGMP and pharmaceutical regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Fluent English.
