Maintenance Operative

About the role

The Johnstown Estate is seeking a reliable Maintenance Operative to keep our facilities running smoothly and ensure a high standard of guest comfort. You will be part of a dedicated team that values passion, customer focus, teamwork and integrity, and you will play a key role in preserving the estate’s appearance and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular inspections of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting and other building systems.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests, fixing broken equipment and replacing faulty parts.
• Perform routine safety checks and address any hazards in line with health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Maintain and service power tools, machinery and other maintenance assets.
• Assist with painting, decorating and other aesthetic projects to keep the property looking its best.
• Keep detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs and supplies.
• Be on call for emergency situations such as leaks, floods or power outages.
• Collaborate professionally with other maintenance team members and estate occupants.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with plumbing systems, installations and repairs.
• Proficiency in a range of maintenance disciplines including tiling, carpentry, electrical work, painting and general repairs.
• Physical ability to lift, bend and work in various weather conditions.
• Effective problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Understanding of health‑and‑safety regulations and relevant certifications or licences (e.g., driver’s licence, trade qualifications).
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays, especially for emergencies.
