Mechanical Fitter – Waterford

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our Engineering Maintenance team in Waterford’s fast‑paced FMCG manufacturing plant. The role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting and improving production and utility equipment to maximise reliability, efficiency and product quality while adhering to safety and food‑safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and utility equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on manufacturing, packaging and process equipment.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Install, commission and modify production machinery and mechanical systems.
- Perform routine inspections to identify wear, damage and potential failures.
- Replace and align bearings, gearboxes, pumps, motors, conveyors, chains, belts and drive systems.
- Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in root‑cause analysis.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, capital projects and new line installations.
- Complete maintenance documentation accurately using the CMMS.
Required profile
- Recognised Mechanical Fitter trade qualification (QQI Advanced Certificate Craft – Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitter or equivalent).
- Full eligibility to work in Ireland.
- Minimum 3 years post‑apprenticeship experience in FMCG, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical or high‑volume manufacturing environments.
- Experience maintaining automated production equipment.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings and mechanical power transmission.
- Proficiency with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to use a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Experience with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), permit‑to‑work and safe isolation procedures.
- Understanding of GMP, HACCP and food‑safety requirements.
- Root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action implementation.
