Medical Registrar – Hospital Medicine

About the role

The Medical Registrar will provide high‑quality medical care to patients admitted through the Medical Admissions Unit and to any other in‑patients requiring medical review at UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford. Working under the supervision of senior consultants, the registrar will manage patient care from admission to discharge and support the multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Admit and assess patients on the Medical Floor and document history, examination and ongoing notes.
• Attend daily ward rounds, take handover and ensure continuity of care.
• Provide medical consults for surgical patients when required.
• Write detailed discharge summaries for approval by the Consultant Physician.
• Participate in family meetings, respond to adverse events and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Assist in the education of junior colleagues and engage in hospital projects.
• Manage medical information for insurance claim support.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor registered with the appropriate medical board.
• Ability to work under the supervision of Medical Consultants.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to produce accurate clinical notes and discharge summaries.
