Newly Qualified Accountant – Internal Audit Lead

About the role

This position is ideal for a newly qualified accountant with audit experience who wants to lead an internal audit function within a diversified organisation that operates over 30 retail outlets in the North West of Ireland. You will work in a hybrid model, delivering comprehensive audit coverage across finance, operations and IT.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and present an Annual Internal Audit Plan to the Audit Committee based on a thorough risk assessment.
• Plan, execute and report on audit assignments to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
• Conduct internal audits and ad‑hoc reviews of financial, operational and IT controls.
• Prepare detailed management reports with findings and practical recommendations.
• Monitor remediation actions and follow up to ensure timely resolution of control issues.
• Support management in implementing best practices and strengthening internal controls.
• Lead the group‑wide risk assessment process each year.
• Contribute to operational and systems‑related projects, potentially taking project leadership responsibilities.
• Assist with company secretarial and compliance requirements as needed.

Required profile

• Fully qualified member of a recognised professional accountancy body.
• Relevant audit experience gained within an accounting firm or a large organisation’s internal audit function.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.
• Confidence to challenge existing practices constructively and present findings to senior management.
• Intellectual curiosity, proactive mindset and a drive to add value.
• Full clean driver’s licence and access to own transport.

Required skills

• Audit experience within a professional services firm or internal audit department.
