Preschool Educator – Intellectual Disability Service

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a dedicated Preschool Educator to join its Intellectual Disability Service in the Sligo/Leitrim area. The role is based in a specialist preschool that supports children with intellectual disabilities, providing a nurturing and inclusive early‑learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver age‑appropriate educational activities tailored to the needs of children with intellectual disabilities.
• Promote social, emotional, and cognitive development through play‑based learning.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and support staff, to implement individualized care plans.
• Maintain accurate records of each child's progress and communicate updates to families.
• Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment in line with HSE policies.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in early childhood education or special education.
• Experience supporting children with additional needs, preferably in a preschool setting.
• Commitment to inclusive education and the values of the HSE.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Knowledge of developmental milestones for children with intellectual disabilities.
• Ability to adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to diverse learning needs.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with families and professionals.
