Principal Data Scientist – AI & Machine Learning

About the role

As a Principal Data Scientist you will lead high‑impact AI and machine‑learning projects for LexisNexis Risk Solutions’ insurance business. You will act as a senior technical leader, shaping product road‑maps, building scalable ML workflows, and collaborating across product, technology and data‑engineering teams to deliver data‑driven solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Explore and prototype Generative AI and other advanced ML solutions, adapting innovations from global teams for the local market.
• Design, build, and deploy predictive models and end‑to‑end ML pipelines on Azure and Databricks.
• Support cloud migration initiatives, ensuring analytics infrastructure aligns with long‑term strategy.
• Mentor junior data scientists and promote a culture of technical excellence.
• Communicate complex analytical results to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics) – MSc/PhD preferred.
• 8+ years of data‑science experience, including 3+ years building production‑grade predictive models.
• Strong background in insurance workflows such as pricing, underwriting, claims and fraud detection.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• Python programming (preferred) and R.
• Azure ML, Azure storage, and Azure architecture.
• Apache Spark and distributed computing.
• SQL and experience with relational and non‑relational databases.
• Data‑processing formats: Avro, Parquet, JSON, XML.
• MLOps practices, Git version control, and Linux environment.
• Databricks, BI tools, and model governance/ethical AI concepts.
