Principal Security Engineer – AWS Security

About the role

Amazon is looking for a Principal Security Engineer to lead the technical strategy for detecting and stopping sophisticated cyber threats across AWS. You will define direction, prototype new cross‑domain detection ideas, and drive them to production, protecting millions of customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical direction and long‑term strategy for threat detection across the organization.
• Identify, prioritize and solve the highest‑impact security detection problems.
• Design, prototype and shepherd new detection approaches into production.
• Mentor engineers across multiple job families and guide career growth.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists and security engineers to build solutions.
• Sponsor cross‑org initiatives, build consensus on security trade‑offs and unblock delivery.
• Evaluate and advocate for emerging technologies to enhance detection and mitigation.
• Communicate security risks and technical decisions to business leaders and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale security engineering projects in ambiguous environments.
• Strong ability to work autonomously, influence multiple teams and drive consensus.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and business audiences.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and shaping technical culture.
