Project Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Project Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading energy organisation focused on decarbonisation. The role will be based in a hybrid model, working from our Cork or Dublin offices, and will involve detailed design of electric machine drive compressors and associated systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of Electric Machine Drive (EMD) compressors, suction and discharge pipework, coolers, metering and related components.
• Contribute to the technical aspects of the tendering process, ensuring design compliance with the organisation’s Engineering Design Manual.
• Collaborate with senior designers to harmonise design methodology and maintain engineering excellence across the network.
• Perform hazard identification, design risk assessments and support HAZOP/HAZID/HAZCON studies.
• Ensure designs meet construction, health & safety regulations and public/utility procurement requirements.

Required profile

• Level 8 engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical or related) with solid knowledge of construction and H&S regulations.
• Proven experience handling complex mechanical design projects in the energy sector.
• Ability to solve technical problems quickly and communicate complex information clearly.

Required skills

• Mechanical design of compressors and pipework.
• Electric Machine Drive (EMD) systems.
• HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON, Functional Safety and LOPA.
• ALARP principles and design risk assessment.
• Public and utility procurement processes.
