About the role
The Office of Public Works is seeking a Receptionist / General Operative (Band 3) for its Furniture Branch in Dublin 8. The role provides the first point of contact for visitors and callers, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day operations and a secure workplace.
Key responsibilities
- Answer telephone calls, take detailed messages and forward them to the appropriate colleague.
- Welcome and escort visitors, issue and track keys/fobs, and control access to the building.
- Receive and distribute business deliveries and post throughout the premises.
- Secure the building at the end of the day by closing doors, windows and reporting any issues.
- Direct unauthorised persons to leave the site using intercom and loudspeaker.
- Monitor, activate and deactivate the fire control system.
- Use internal communication tools such as 8x8 and Microsoft Teams to coordinate with staff.
- Log and track daily service requests, visitor logs and queries.
Required profile
- Eligibility to work in Ireland (EEA, UK, Swiss, or non‑EEA with appropriate visa or employment permit).
- Valid manual driving licence (category B & W) without automatic‑only restriction.
- Current Safepass card (or willingness to complete the course after appointment).
- Fire marshal and first‑aider training.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a secure environment.
Required skills
- Excellent ICT proficiency, including Microsoft Teams and 8x8 communication platforms.
- Experience in office administration and front‑desk duties.
