Senior Instructor – Day Service Support (Clifden)

About the role

Ability West is seeking experienced Senior Instructors to deliver day‑service support for school leavers in Clifden. You will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to empowering people with intellectual disabilities and autism to live self‑directed, inclusive lives.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Person in Charge when the Day Services Manager is absent, overseeing volunteers, students and community outings.
• Design, deliver and evaluate QQI‑aligned training modules covering personal safety, care, visual arts, nutrition, health and relaxation.
• Support the Day Services Manager and other instructors in delivering courses that promote social development, personal care and community integration.
• Ensure individual support plans meet New Direction Interim standards.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the adult day centre, including scheduling and record‑keeping.

Required profile

• Level 8 qualification in Teaching, Nursing, Applied Social Studies, Social Care, Psychology, Behaviour Analysis or equivalent.
• Minimum four years’ experience working with people with intellectual disabilities, autism, complex needs or communication difficulties.
• Proven experience in education or training environments.
• Full, current driving licence.

Required skills

• Ability to develop and deliver QQI‑standard learning modules.
• Knowledge of person‑centred planning and behaviour‑challenge management.
• Training in communication strategies for individuals with special needs.
