Senior IT Systems Administrator – Research IT (Permanent)

About the role

The University College Dublin Research IT team is looking for a Senior IT Systems Administrator to lead and manage a programme of work delivering specialised research IT services. You will act as the subject‑matter expert for the HPC and research data management environment, supporting staff, students and researchers across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the university’s high‑performance computing (HPC) estate, including GPU‑enabled and large‑memory nodes.
• Lead the deployment and support of research data management storage solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators and the wider Research IT team.
• Collaborate with researchers to understand computing requirements and translate them into reliable services.
• Ensure security, performance and availability of all research‑focused IT infrastructure.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing large, heterogeneous HPC clusters.
• Strong understanding of research data management principles and data centre operations.
• Ability to lead projects and communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving skills in a fast‑moving academic environment.
