Senior Medical Officer – Community Child Health & Immunisation

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join the Supplementary Panel. This permanent role focuses on delivering community‑based child health and immunisation services across Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate community child health programmes, including routine immunisations.
• Provide specialist paediatric clinical support to primary care teams.
• Develop and implement evidence‑based policies and protocols for child health services.
• Monitor service performance, ensure compliance with national standards, and report outcomes.
• Mentor junior medical staff and contribute to continuous professional development.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration to practise in Ireland.
• Extensive experience in community‑based child health and immunisation delivery.
• Proven background in paediatrics, preferably within a public health setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across the Mid West region.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in paediatric health and immunisation programmes.
• Knowledge of Irish public health policies and child health guidelines.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills for service evaluation.
