Senior RAG Engineer

About the role

Newcode.ai is building a legal‑tech platform that answers professional questions by retrieving the right passages from confidential documents and feeding them to a language model. As the Senior RAG Engineer you will own the entire retrieval pipeline, from document ingestion to the final ranked results that the model uses.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end retrieval pipeline: parsing, chunking, embedding, indexing and keeping data up‑to‑date as clients add material.
• Design and implement hybrid semantic‑keyword search in Qdrant, fuse ranked lists, filter on metadata and rerank results for the model.
• Build agentic retrieval: query decomposition, multi‑step loops, stop criteria, and enforce cost and latency budgets.
• Develop evaluation layers with golden sets, retrieval metrics and regression tests that trace bad answers back to offending chunks.
• Ship reliable Python/FastAPI services, with background jobs for ingestion, embedding and re‑indexing, while ensuring data isolation and multilingual robustness.

Required profile

• 5+ years building production backend systems, with at least 2 years shipping retrieval or RAG services used by real users.
• Proven experience diagnosing and fixing retrieval regressions in production, including building and maintaining golden test sets.
• Hands‑on experience running vector indexes (Qdrant) in production, tuning parameters, handling memory/latency trade‑offs and re‑indexing without downtime.
• Strong Python background, comfortable with FastAPI, PostgreSQL and Redis under load.
