Senior R&D Engineer – Neurovascular MedTech

About the role

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to join its Neurovascular team in Galway, Ireland. The role focuses on developing innovative devices for acute ischemic stroke, working on complex projects that span design, prototyping, testing and product launch.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of disease state, gather user needs and translate them into technical specifications.
• Design, build and test prototypes, analyse performance data and identify optimal solutions.
• Create detailed component and device assembly drawings, select materials and define process settings.
• Develop and deliver project plans, manage risks and liaise with external resources to meet performance, time and cost targets.
• Write procedures, protocols, specifications and reports; support creation of marketing and training materials.

Required profile

• Honours degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in all stages of medical device design and development.
• Strong design and technical ability with deep knowledge of fundamental engineering principles.
• Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• SolidWorks for 3D design.
• Product lifecycle data management systems.
• Minitab for statistical analysis.
• Prototype fabrication and testing.
