Senior Scientist – Scalable Sustainable Batteryless RF IoT Sensing Platforms

About the role

The Wireless Sensor Network Group at Tyndall National Institute is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead the development of scalable, sustainable, battery‑less RF IoT sensing platforms. The role is based in Cork and contributes to Europe’s Chips for Europe Initiative and the Institute’s deep‑tech research agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Lead research and prototype development of battery‑less RF IoT sensor platforms.
• Design and optimise scalable architectures for wireless sensing applications.
• Collaborate with academic, industry and clinical partners across Europe.
• Secure research funding, publish findings and present at international conferences.
• Mentor PhD students, post‑docs and interns within the Wireless Sensor Network Group.
• Contribute to the Institute’s strategic goals in semiconductor, photonics and quantum technologies.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a closely related discipline.
• Proven track record in RF, IoT or semiconductor research with peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience leading interdisciplinary research projects.
• Strong ability to work in collaborative, multi‑partner environments.
